290 Reads Earned Me $100 on Medium.

I have a few pointers and theories below that you may not have considered when it comes to how earnings are calculated on Medium. I am curious to know your thoughts on these. They are listed further down.

Medium is funny. Some people have way more reads than I do, but have earned much less. Others may have fewer reads and earned more.

I am curious, if you care to share, what your reads to earnings are.

The algorithm on Medium is certainly difficult to work out. We know claps, comments, new followers, FoM accounts, and read time are all factors in what we earn.

Here are a few thoughts I have regarding this:

• Are comments that are more in depth and add value to the article a factor with earnings?
• Read ratio. That’s a given, right? The higher the read ratio, the more you’re likely to earn.
• Readers clicking through to another one of your articles improves the bounce rate that Google tracks, which in turn benefits Mediums ranking, thus earning you more. This is my own theory that I haven’t seen anyone else mention.
